Alka Lamba : Difference of Controversy or Difference of Status?

Introduction :

Alka Lamba , aged 38 years , born in an Upper middle class family. She did her schooling from Government School in Delhi for girls. She did her Graduation and post-graduation from Delhi Univeristy. She is M.Sc in Chemistry. She is chairman of  an NGO  ‘Go India Foundation’.

Political Career :

Her political career started way back in 1994 when she joined National Students Union of India (NSUI). Later in 1995 she contested DUSU elections for the post of President and won by a whooping margin. In 1997 she was appointed as the President of all India NSUI.

2002 - appointed as the General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress.

2003 - Unsuccessfully contested Delhi Assembly election against the senior BJP leader Shri Madan Lal Khurana. But yes a brave effort considering the circumstances.

2006 - Member of All India Congress Committee(AICC) and appointed as General Secretary of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC). At the same time she was also appointed as Vice Chairperson of National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD), autonomous body of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. 

2007~2011 - Secretary All India Congress Committee (AICC) at the Indian National Congress.

Social Activities:

In 2006 started an NGO ‘Go India Foundation’ with sole aim of contributing towards the cause of society. This NGO made a record on 15^th aug’10 when over 65,000 people donated blood in one day throughout the nation and worldwide. This Campaign was appreciated even by Russian Ambassador. Now every year on Independence day this NGO runs blood donation camp all over India. She herself leads the cause of women and child safety.

Difference of controversy or Difference of status :

Starting from bitter words as per media in 2012 she revealed the identity of a rape victim which later came out to be false though. After that she was removed from the fact-finding committee of NCW. In my opinion she may be at fault but only 10% or 20% in this case. What followed from here is the Difference. Difference not of controversy but of status. Her fault was not that she was involved in a controversy but she didn’t have a high political position or political family background. We have witnessed a lot of scams and controversies by our ministers and leaders but their political career is still intact.

Summary :

“The contribution of Alka towards Society, Youth , Women safety makes her eligible for the chance she deserves. She is capable of winning a seat in atleast delhi assembly constituency. But again Kids of established leaders are preferred more than the deserving in our political parties. Her Pros clearly” overpowers her single Con. ”
