ABOUT:
Hari Nagar vidhan sabha constituency is one of the 70 assembly constituency of NCT of Delhi. Hari Nagar is part of West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency along with nine other Vidhan Sabha segments.
POLITICAL SCENARIO :
Hari Nagar Constituency has always been a citadel of BJP. Since 1993 , BJP candidate, Harsharan Singh Balli, has won all the four elections defeating congress candidate. Out of 4 times , he has outsmarted congress candidate 3 times with a comfortable margin. In 1998 though congress swept delhi elections winning 51 seats out of 70. Still congress couldn't win Hari Nagar seat.
WHAT EXACTLY IS WRONG WITH CONGRESS IN HARI NAGAR:
As it is evident from the last four assembly election results. Congress vote % share barely touches a quarter while BJP always secured more than 50% votes. So let's see what possible factors contributes to this poor performance of congress in Hari Nagar Constituency :
Harsharan Singh Balli , BJP , might be having good repute and strong grass root working. Still continously for four terms he has defied the anti incumbency very easily. Two times congress congress have fielded OP wadhwa in 1998 and 2003 but he got a serious drubbing last time in 2008. Two other candidates have tried their luck but of no avail. May be candidates fielded are without any survey or on the recommendations / influence of some other political leader. Moreover no woman candidate was tried by congress in this area knowing that 48% of voters are women.
Though not much ground is lot till now. If congress chooses to field a woman candidate with good social works under her belt like Alka Lamba , Congress can hope of wresting this seat from BJP. If candidate recommended by other leaders or kids of politicos are fielded we may have another serious drubbing on the cards. But Question arises
Making amends , possible solution for congress of this problem :
Though not much ground is lot till now. If congress chooses to field a woman candidate with good social works under her belt like Alka Lamba , Congress can hope of wresting this seat from BJP. If candidate recommended by other leaders or kids of politicos are fielded we may have another serious drubbing on the cards. But Question arises
Why Alka Lamba ??
- Being a Woman Candidate She can have better connect among women voters which comprises 48% of voters.
- She is running an NGO and has many social works under her belt. She can boast of these works when she goes among voters.
- Aged only 38 she can attract youth voters easily.
- Being an Alumni of Delhi university , college students can develop affinity towards her.
As rightly said " Winners don't do different things , they do things differently"
